On September 6th 2025, the “Linzer Klangwolke” once again attracted nearly 100,000 guests to the edge of the Danube river for the 25th time. Titled “Urban Pulse,” the city’s heartbeat was conveyed in captivating images and melodic sounds – a visually staged concert that alluded to the Klangwolke’s roots almost 50 years ago which placed music back at the center.
The foundation for this concept was a nearly 60min composition by Austrian Johannes Berauer, pre-recorded by the Bruckner Orchestra Linz and enhanced live by the performance of multi-percussionist Christoph Sietzen. Together with the ensemble MOTUS Percussion and 85 other local performers, the monumental container city with its three performance levels was filled with action and music.
On this 80-meter-wide floating stage docked on the banks of the Danube, the narrative unfolded, ranging from the city’s industrial rhythm to the flow of the Danube river itself, to the more somber scenes surrounding the Nibelungen Bridge and the Nazi era, before the finale, “Rhythm of the City,” was staged with colorful visuals. Just like in 2023, the cityscape of the Urfahr side was incorporated into the lighting design, this time also including the LED facade of the Ars Electronica building, which pulsed in different colors and patterns from scene to scene.
